Can a rail project transform not just mobility, but the very fabric of urban life? In Melbourne, it’s already happening.
The new underground Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) is a transformational project that will help shape Melbourne’s growth in the decades ahead. It will better connect Victorians to jobs, retail, education, health services and each other – and help Melbourne evolve into a ‘city of centres’.
Precinct Structure Plans were developed for the areas surrounding the underground stations – planning which will see suburban areas evolve into high density urban environments.
During 2023/2024, Mark led the open space technical assessment for six precincts for the Suburban Rail Loop East stage of the project, working as a consultant for Jacobs.
Mark will share key elements of the process to plan for the open space needs for these new high density environments, and how this will maintain Melbourne as one of the most liveable cities in the world.
