World Urban Parks encourages and recognizes significant contributions made by individuals to the urban parks, open space, and recreation sector with these prestigious international awards.
Distinguished Individual Award
The Distinguished Individual Award recognizes any individual associated with the parks, open space, and recreation industry.
Emerging Cities Leaders – Individual Award
The Emerging Cities Leaders Award of World Urban Parks encourages and recognizes leadership contributions made by individuals to the urban parks, open space, and recreation sector from Emerging Cities (developing nations). The Emerging Cities Leaders Award recognizes any individual associated with the parks, open space, and recreation industry.
Legacy Award
The Legacy Award of World Urban Parks recognizes past leaders who impacted parks and park management.
- The allocation of this Award will alternate from an Individual to an Organization
- The Judging Panel will select which Leader (individual) or Organization that maybe considered for the award
Young Leaders
The Young Leaders Award of World Urban Parks encourages and recognizes young leaders (individuals) who have committed to making a difference in their communities and internationally. The Young Leaders Award recognizes any individual associated with the parks, open space, and recreation industry under the age of 35.
Instructions, Purpose and Award Criteria:
To internationally recognize a significant or sustained contribution by an individual to furthering:
- Urban livability and sustainability through parks, open space, recreation, and related endeavors
- Advancing the parks, open space and recreation industry through advocacy, development, or leadership in related professional or peak organizations
- Both members and non-members of World Urban Parks can participate in the 2022 International Large Urban Parks Award.

Large Urban Parks Awards
The International Large Urban Parks Awards aim to recognize the quality of parks, the skills of the people who manage them and the value they bring to the cities they serve.
The International Large Urban Parks Award enables Cities around the world to benchmark their performance and understand where improvements could be made. The Awards are based on 4 main criteria which are:
- Park Design and Layout
- Features and Facilities
- Protection and Community Engagement and Involvement
- Park Management and Maintenance
The Awards are given in three Categories:
- Gold Award ≥ 800 Points
- Silver Award 650 – 799 Points
- Bronze Award 500 – 649 Points
Instructions and Award Criteria:
- Both members and non-members of World Urban Parks can participate in the 2022 International Large Urban Parks Award.
- Read through the Award Criteria HERE. All documents must be submitted in English and the application fee must be received by the deadline to be in good standing order with your application. WUP will follow up with you to process the application fee ($550 NZD for World Urban Park Members, $800 NZD for non-members)
